Cathedral Peak Wine Estate is happy and proud to announce the arrival of our new CellarMaster, Flip Smith, who takes over from Andri Hanekom, who helped establish an excellent foundation from which Flip could take over.
Historically wine in South Africa has been a Western Cape affair, but recently Justin Vermaak, a formidable entrepreneur teamed up with Mauritz Koster, award-winning wheat farmer decided to combine their love of wine and their immense admiration for the Drakensberg, into birthing the first wine estate in The Central Berg.
The Central berg added to its deep history when the Estate opened its doors to the public the first time with a function on 5 December 2014. The opening followed almost 8 years after the first wines was planted in Sept 2007.
GET IT – Northern KZN, a print and online publication owned by Caxton & CTP Printers and Publishers, recently wrote a lovely article, titled Winterton’s Expert Winemakers, about Cathedral Peak Wine Estate, and I have a feeling as the first wine farm in KwaZulu-Natal, it’s not going to be the last either.
Cathedral Peak Wines were proud to welcome the KwaZulu-Nata Premier, the honourable Senzo Mchunu, to their official launch. Along with a string of other prolific dignitaries, including his wife the mayor of the uThungulu District Municipality, Mrs Thandeka Mchunu, and successful businessman from throughout KwaZulu-Natal, the premier couple were treated to some of our first vintage wines during a splendid lunch.

After months of planning, we at Cathedral Peak Wine Estate are proud to announce the unveiling of our brand new website. In conjunction with the web development team in Durban we feel that they have successfully captured the essence of the sense of place we’re trying to create around our unique brand of wines.
